PLASTIC PETE: 3D CHARACTER ANIMATION

In my graduate 3D class, I developed a complete 3D character animation using Blender, covering the entire production cycle—from brainstorming and mesh creation to rigging, texturing, and animating.

The Idea

I'm passionate about environmental conservation and regularly participate in beach clean-ups, where I often remove plastic bottles. These plastics break down into microplastics, posing a significant threat to marine life. Inspired by this, I conceived an idea for a character: a plastic bottle who enjoys fishing and eating fish.

The Process

Initially, I constructed the basic structure of the character, including eyes and mouth. I then sculpted detailed elements like the boots and the distinctive large lip/face part, as well as accessories such as a vest and necklace. Following this, I developed the textures, specifying colors and materials for items like the necklace and vest. Finally, I rigged the character by adding bones to enable movement. This foundational work was crucial in bringing the character to life

The result

After a challenging and admittedly frustrating process, Plastic Pete was born. Here’s the final result.
